Top 5 Mercedes Benz AMG Performance cars of all time

Mercedes Benz AMG

Mercedes Benz AMG has been churning out the best and the most desirable performance cars for decades. The letters AMG stands for Aufrecht, Melcher and Grossaspach. The brand AMG is often associated with big V8 engines and smoking tires, as the brand has produced some of the best sounding performance cars the world has ever known. Before settling itself as a semi-standalone division responsible for the development of high-performance Mercedes-AMG models, AMG used to be an independent company that produced a wide range of vehicles under their own brand name.

Here's a list of the Top 5 Mercedes Benz AMG models-

1.       1971 6.8 SEL

AMG took the racing world in Europe by storm in 1971. This big Benz consisted of a massive 6.8-liter engine that got it second to the finish line in about 24 hours of Spa race. Top speeds can go up to 142 mph. And the most impressive fact is the car reaching the max speed in just 6.3 seconds. The 6.8 SEL became known as one of the world’s fastest sedans and was coined the term “The Red Pig”.

2.       1986 W124

MercedesBenz AMG has a good reputation for car engines and modification of high-performance parts that had grown significantly over the years. During the mid-1980s, AMG took the level of performance cars to another level by equipping E-class with a 5.6 litre V8 engine into the W124. It produced a massive 385 horsepower. The car had top speeds of 190 mph and could get from 0 to 60 in a little more than five seconds. The Benz was later termed as “The Hammer”

3.       1997 CLK GTR

In 1997, with the hit of the C36, Mercedes was getting ready to take it a step further with their performance division and looked to AMG for help for upgrading the next model. It started out with a CLK coupe and created a car that was different from anything else they’d ever designed. This sports car boasted top speeds of 198 mph. It came equipped with carbon fibre and aluminum construction, along with a 6.9-liter V12 engine plus 612 horsepower. This supercar was known as one of the most expensive in the world in 1998 with top of the line technology.

4.       2003 G55 AMG
Mercedes Benz AMG

Mercedes Benz AMG was renowned for creating high performance stellar upgrades for numerous systems of every Mercedes model. But that was not the end. In 2003, Mercedes Benz AMG came out of their confinements and the G55 hit the showroom floors. The results were crazy. Inspired by the original G-Series truck, AMG modified it by getting better suspension parts as well as brakes. It was equipped with 5.4-liter V8 engine that gave 500 horsepower. The truck produced more power than the ever-so-popular Ferrari 360 Stradale, as it went 0 to 60 in just less than five seconds.

5.       2016 AMG GT3
Mercedes Benz AMG

The AMG GT3 hit the showroom floors in 2016, and is claimed to compete with the top performance cars like Porsche 911 GT3. This Mercedes Benz AMG has a similar suspension, transmission, drivetrain and a 6.2-liter V8 engine. However, the new construction with carbon fibre and aluminium body parts makes it way lighter than the competitor. Although the AMG GT3 was made for racing, its attractive looks and unique design have become so intriguingly well-known, that a version with street-legal Mercedes parts is in the making.

The history of Mercedes Benz AMG is quite unique. Over the years, the company has created some of the most powerful and inspiring high-performance vehicles in the luxury segment.
