Mercedes Benz Vision AVTR- Inspired by the Future

Mercedes Benz Vision AVTR

Ever wondered what future would look like? Well, Mercedes Benz is here to paint the picture with its all new Mercedes Benz Vision AVTR. It launched the super sustainable concept car recently in January 2020 at a Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The car is said to be inspired by the 2009 sci-fi hit movie “Avatar”. That is not all, in fact, the director of Avatar- James Cameron was also present in the launch event.

Once again, Mercedes Benz has shown its knack for outlandish designing and far-off future tech in its brand-new concept car.

The Mercedes Benz Vision AVTR comes with the latest battery technology and the battery itself is made of compostable/recyclable materials. The acronym AVTR stands for Advanced Vehicle Transformation that signifies the designers’ vision of future automotive trends. The design is sleek, futuristic and luxurious.

With the introduction of the brand-new electric car, Mercedes Benz aims to merge the passenger and automobile into a “symbiotic organism”. It calls it an extension of your own body.
Basically, the AVTR is an electric car that is capable of driving both forward as well as sideways. The car has special spherical wheels that the car maker says is inspired by the seeds of the “Tree of Soul” in the movie. The back of the car is covered with 33 moveable scales. Mercedes Benz calls it the bionic flaps. The function of these bionic flaps is to communicate with environment outside the car. They make a soothing noise when they move in unison.

It boasts of more than 350kW engine power and a range of more than 700 kms. Its battery can be fully charged in just 15 minutes!

The interior of the car is cleanly and beautifully designed. With the AVTR model, Mercedes Benz lets go of the steering wheel to place a control unit in the form of a glowing mound. It is theoretically an example of autonomous driving. Neuromorphic hardware acts as a conduit between the vehicle and the human. The driver can place his/her hands on the mound and the car will instantly recognise the person from his/her heartbeat and breathing rhythm. The concept is similar to how the Na’vi people in the Avatar movie actually connected with their banshees. Once the car starts moving, the sweeping display in front of them lights up with 3D graphics of Pandora. The AVTR comes with different settings depending on what the driver wants.

As in the case of many other concept cars, the Mercedes Benz Vision AVTR is meant to tease out what it will be like to ride in a sleek futuristic car. And also, while the inside of the car is relatively sparse, Mercedes-Benz has a quite a lot of ideas about what might be possible inside something like the AVTR model.

But many people still do not know why concept cars exist and this is something that car makers will have to consider. And how much of the ideas and technology behind the Mercedes Benz Vision AVTR will actually translate to the road? The future looks bright on the other side of the fence but let’s just hope for the best.
