When it comes to combining timeless luxury and ruggedness, Mercedes Benz
G-Class nails it all! It is one of the longest running name plates of the
luxury carmaker that has been in production for over 70 years now. In India,
the G-class is available as AMG G63.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is quite a heavy car but with a very agile
machinery. Apart from scaling steep areas, it can also conquer rough terrains. It
was recently that Mercedes released a new video boasting yet again its classic
sport utility vehicle’s ability to achieve incredible feats.
In this
promotional video of Mercedes Benz for the G-Class is titled “Mercedes-BenzG-Class (2019): Conquering the Punta Negra Dam”. It comes under the campaign
called “Stronger than Gravity” for the product’s 40th anniversary. With this
ad, the brand shows how crazy the G-class can be while going off-road by
driving across the sides of the 331 ft tall Punta Negra Dam in Argentina. The
clip shows the auto scaling the steep walls of the dam from where we can also see
that the slope of the wall is about 45 degrees but the vehicle seemed to have hardly
any trouble at keeping its traction as it drove across the surface
horizontally.
the focus of the “Stronger than Gravity” campaign was to enhance the
profile of the Mercedes G-Class among the key target groups that the vehicle
is: powerful, self-assured and superior. It attracts its customers and fans
alike by getting the SUV perform in extreme environments, that beautifully
demonstrates why the vehicle has been fascinating us since 1979!
Technical specifications of the AMG G63:
Over the years, the vehicle has maintained its signature
boxy look, the pan-americana front grille, circular headlamps and quadruple
exhausts on the sides. When it comes to its interior, it is highlighted by
Mercedes’ large dual touchscreen displays, chrome inserts, leather-covered
seats that has diamond stitching, jet turbine-inspired air vents and
multi-function steering wheel.
The G-class engine sends power to all the four wheels through
a 9-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel-drive. The G-Class transfer case is
flange-mounted directly onto the gearbox and sends up to 60 per cent of the
torque to the rear axle and the remaining 40 per cent to the front
unit. The low-range off-road reduction gear increases torque to the driven
wheels, which allows the G-Class to cut through difficult terrain.
The INKAS inspired Mercedes-AMG G63 is no different
from the AMG model of the G-Class. What makes the former different from the
latter is that the INKAS armoured G-class boasts of CEN 1063 BR6 level of
armouring technology that is offered by INKAS to help the vehicle withstand
multiple shots from high-powered rifles and weapons.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class celebrates its 41st anniversary this year
and the German carmaker paid tribute by staying true to the core values of the
class since it was introduced in 1979. A statement released by the company
states that the “outstanding off-road capabilities” of the G-Class has remained
true to its values as presented 40 years ago.
The G-class has continuously evolved from a unique off-road vehicle with
high quality on the road over the decades. The constant research and development
of Mercedes-Benz ensured that the off-road vehicle always remained fresh and up
to date when it came to immersing customers with its agile beauty!
